Interview. Sometimes, a football player’s destiny is a question of details, decisions that change a more or less definite career plan. This may be what happened to Jimmy Nirlo, a former team-mate of Yann M’vila and Yacine Brahimi with the Reserve, who unexpectedly left to Greece after he was awarded a professional contract. A bitter-sweet experience, but which left the current Pacy-sur-Eure player with a massive will to reach the highest level once again.

Decimated by the late departures of Bangoura and Gyan last summer, the Rennes attack needs reconstruction this winter, in order to keep on hoping for European places at the end of the season. Waiting for attacking reinforcements, Frédéric Antonetti hopes the arrival of two additional forwards. Will his wish be realised? Here is a summary of the rumours published over the last few months in the media.
With 31 points at the break, Antonetti’s Stade Rennes is completing the second best league start in the club’s history. Only Guy Lacombe did better. As his predecessor, the current Rennes manager built his success on a heavy defence and constant ranting.
Ligue 1, Caen 1 - 0 Stade rennais. Analysis. In a freezing Stade d’Ornano, Stade Rennes stumbled on a Caen team regrouped and very able to counter-attack. Inexistent in the first half because of a failing midfield, the attacking animation was revived in the second act thanks to the entrance of Leroy & Brahimi.
Ligue 1, Caen 1 - 0 Stade Rennais. Rennes has –once again – shown very little to hope winning in Normandy, or even only equalise after trailing for most of the game. A shame, as the honorific title of autumn champion would have been theirs in case of victory. Stade Rennes has got to work on serious attacking issues. This is what the winter break is here for.

Is Stade Rennes unloved or an easy target? Facing criticism from specialised radio and televisions shows, Frédéric Antonetti decided to “attack” before the trip to Caen on Wednesday.
Who could have imagined such a scenario? Last night, the Rennes supporters have certainly lived one of the highlights of the club’s season. Four months after his terrible clash with Nancy’s Reynald Lemaitre, Fabien Lemoine celebrated his return to the Stade de la Route de Lorient. As a symbol, he found the key to the game by hitting his corner-kick on Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik’s head. Simply magic.
Ligue 1, Stade Rennais 1 - 0 Valenciennes. In the dying moments of a game rather controlled, but in which Antonetti’s players failed to create a real attacking threat, Rennes took the edge through a header by Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik. But this game will especially remembered for Fabien Lemoine’s return, assisting to the goal after four months on the side-lines.
A good communicator, Frédéric Antonetti is often recognized by observers as an adept of fine football. However, since he arrived in Marseille, the gap is massive between the manager’s speech and the performances displayed by Stade Rennes on the pitch. In the same time, his recent outbursts gave the impression of a latent discomfort. Is it time for continuity or for reconstruction?
Ligue 1, Stade rennais - Valenciennes, Saturday 19 :00 CET. Good news this week-end, with the return of two important players to add some depth to Rennes’ midfield. Ligue 1, Bordeaux 0 - 0 Stade Rennes. Rennes in the Canal + record book, a mute attack on the road, Stade Rennes game the most boring in the top flight… All echoes after the Bordeaux - Rennes game in Ligue 1’s matchday 17.
Ligue 1, Bordeaux 0 - 0 Stade rennais. Rennes and Bordeaux parted on a scoreless draw on Sunday evening, at the end of an exceptionally mediocre game. Handicapped by numerous absences, Stade Rennes is close to breaking point, according to Frédéric Antonetti. On Sunday however, the team will travel to Bordeaux with the aim to remain in the Ligue 1 Top Five .
