Ligue 1, Stade rennais 0 - 2 Nancy. For a last game at home, Stade rennais gave a poor show in front of its crowd by not creating any opportunities during the match. Totally helpless and with no will, Rennes has not been able to take advantage of Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain results to get closer to the podium. By winning tonight, Sochaux is now only one point away from the 5th place. It is time for the season to be over...
By putting pressure on Rennes’ team, Nancy gave a lot of trouble to Stade rennais at the beginning of the match. But the first big save of the game was for Grégorini, who deflected Boukari’s shot for a corner kick (5’). In these first minutes, Rennes’ players were often too late in their interventions and let the initiatives to Nancy. Lax with the marking, Mangane forgot about Hadji who ran towards Douchez but the Moroccan international missed the goal (14’).
This was the real first opportunity, the next one would be the good one. On the left side, Brison crossed for Traoré who scored (0-1, 16’). this scenario reflected well the beginning of the match because Antonetti’s team was to disorganised in their initiatives. Too relax, Rennes’ players made endless mistakes and were not able to get close to Gregorini’s goal, while Nancy was playing in a pleasant and simple way.
Against Rennes’ passivity, especially in defence, Ba. Traoré stole the ball from Souprayen’s feet and crossed the ball to Bérenguer. Six meters away from the goal, Nancy’s midfielder missed the target (33’). Real pest, Traoré was close to score his second goal after a great pass from Féret, But his head ended just outside Douchez’ left post (37’). In this first half, Stade Rennais was quite lucky considering Nancy’s domination.
After halftime, a reaction was expected from Kana-Biyik’s teammates, considering the possible “hot” speech from Frédéric Antonetti. Unfortunately nothing changed and two minutes after halftime, Feret was close to score the second goal against his former club. But Douchez was still focus (47’). Wanting to shake his team, Rennes’ coach subbed Brahimi on and modified at the same time his attacking plan (52’).
Nonetheless, Rennes’ attacks were too rare except maybe a opportunity after a cross from Danze. Montaño controlled the ball with his chest but his could not strike because of Chretien’s intervention at the last second (72’). Moribund, Stade rennais could not react and its lack of will contrasted with Nancy’s enthusiasm. Twice Hadji received crosses from his teammates but his could not score (83’, 86’). It would not be the case for Féret, well served by Sami, who tricked Douchez before scoring in an empty goal (0-2, 90’ +1).
At the end of the match, Stade rennais has shown once again? – concerning signs of powerlessness as said by Douchez on Foot+ : «We have been absent, not at the level of the event and on top of that in front of our crowd. Nancy’s players have been faithful to themselves and deserve to win this game by playing well ». Far, very far from what Rennes’ players have produce tonight and possibly since the beginning of the season. A bad habit.
