Costil, a gamble and an upset hierarchy

Former Caen player Benoît Costil will take over Nicolas Douchez’ role next season. The goalkeeper signed a three year contract with the Stade Rennais this Tuesday. The best player at his position during the last Ligue 2 season, his arrival is part of a massive mix-up in the goalkeepers’ hierarchy.

A return in Style

Trained in the Stade Rennais Academy between 2000 and 2003 but not kept in by the Breton club at the time, Julien Féret has gone a long way since his first time in Rennes. The midfielder from the Cotes d’Armor is now close to the French national team and about to return to the Breton capital, eight years later. A look back at an atypical player journey.

Julien Féret, first recruit

Julien Féret has officially become the first recruit of the Stade Rennais of 2011-2012. The man from the Cotes d’Armor will sign his contract and return to Brittany after undergoing the medical. The transfer fee is estimated to be slightly below the four million euros bar.

Dréossi : “It’s on the right track for Féret”

Transfers. Invited on RMC this Tuesday afternoon, Pierre Dréossi gave a few elements of information regarding Rennes’s summer transfers, expressing optimism regarding the arrival of Julien Féret and the possible extension of Kader Mangane’s contract.

Jérôme Leroy forever

Equally disconcerting and talented, Jérôme Leroy has left a mark at Stade Rennes in four years during which he delighted the crowds at the Route de Lorient. A player different to the others in his attitude, his skills and his ability to make the whole of his team shine. A virtuoso, who leaves with a legitimate feeling of bitterness towards his former management.

International. At the end of their club season, four Stade Rennes players were force to delay their holidays to join their national team. While Yann M’Vila goes on an Eastern European tour with France, Montaño is waiting to know if he is included in the Colombian squad for the Copa América.

Leroy in Rennes, end of the road

Jérôme Leroy played his final game with the Stade Rennais in Lille. After four seasons, and over a hundred and fifty games with the “Rouge et Noir”, the attacking midfielder hasn’t offered a new contract offer from the club, and will therefore leave Brittany on a free transfer, probably for a final season in professional football.

Ligue 1, Lille 3 - 2 Stade rennais. Beaten by Lille and a hat-trick by Moussa Sow despite scoring first, Rennes finally end up the season in sixth place, overtaken by Sochaux, who went to win in Arles-Avignon. A disappointing result to close a lacklustre season, and which will force Antonetti and his players to start their 2011-2012 season as early as the end of July.

On Sunday, Stade Rennes will try to keep their fifth position in Lille. The newly-crowned French champion is a “good example of what should be done” according to Frédéric Antonetti. But are the Bretons capable of taking inspiration from the Northern team?

A 20-player squad, without Théophile-Catherine

Ligue 1, Lille - Stade rennais, Sunday, 21:00 CET. For the final game of the season, Frédéric Antonetti decided to call a squad of 20 players on the road to Lille. Left without Kévin Théophile-Catherine, the Rennes manager might also be forced to do without Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik in defence. Consequently, Dimitri Foulquier, Frank Julienne and Kamal Issah return in the squad.

Slimane Sissoko : “My wish is to remain in Rennes”

Interview. After Quentin Rouger, here comes Slimane Sissoko, the fourth player from the 1991 generation to have signed a professional contract at the Stade Rennais. Plagued with injuries during the last season because of recurrent injuries, the young French-Malian player had the joy to receive a one-year professional contract with an additional two years in option. A contract looking like redemption for Sissoko, who know wants to strive within his training club.

M’Vila for one more year

Announced last night, Yann M’Vila contract extension for at the Stade Rennais, until 2015, has been officialised by the club this Monday morning. A vote of continuity and faithfulness in the Rennes project from the young international, who will therefore remain in Brittany for at least one more season. Also an opportunity for the club to allow themselves a good financial operation.

Ligue 1, Stade rennais 0 - 2 Nancy. For a last game at home, Stade rennais gave a poor show in front of its crowd by not creating any opportunities during the match. Totally helpless and with no will, Rennes has not been able to take advantage of Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain results to get closer to the podium. By winning tonight, Sochaux is now only one point away from the 5th place. It is time for the season to be over...

Ligue 1, Saint-Étienne 1 - 2 Stade Rennais. Finally! By winning at Geoffroy-Guichard thanks to goals by Montaño and Leroy, Rennes has brought a run of nine winless games to and end and nearly guaranteed a Europa League spot for next season. A result lived as a huge relief for the Rennais.

Ligue 1, Saint-Étienne - Stade rennais, Sunday 17:00 CET. Before a particularly important trip to the Forez, Frédéric Antonetti won’t enjoy any return, and is even forced to deal with the forfeits of Tettey and Doumbia. As a result, youngsters are (once again) called to the rescue.

It’ time for general mobilisation at the Stade Rennais, before Sunday’s trip to Saint- Étienne. Since the defeat in Valenciennes, Frédéric Antonetti has observed a change of attitude inside his squad, to avoid a “complete waste”.

Ligue 1, Stade Rennais 1 - 1 Caen. Rennes showed a much better figure than over the recent matches, especially during a first half perfectly controlled by the « Rouge et Noir ». Insufficient for Antonetti’s men however, who see their advantage reduce continuously after nine games without a win.

Ligue 1, Stade rennais - Caen, Wednesday, 19:00 CET. A major doubt before the home game against Stade Malherbe de Caen, Kader Mangane is finally included in the squad published by Frédéric Antonetti. But his presence at kick-off remains uncertain.

Ligue 1, Valenciennes - Stade Rennais, Sunday, 17:00. Although his presence was uncertain until then, Victor Hugo Montaño is finally included in the squad announced by Frédéric Antonetti. However, impossible to say whether his will start the game, following a minor pelvis injury… Compared to last week, Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik returns after a two matches ban.

Douchez, a departure and many questions

Revealed on Monday morning, the announcement by L'Équipe of Nicolas Douchez’ choice of signing at Paris Saint-Germain has been confirmed the same day by Pierre Dréossi. Douchez will bring a three year Breton experience to an end, and the Stade Rennais will lose one of its key players, an important member of the squad on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Finally, everyone is happy...

Ligue 1, Stade Rennais 0 - 0 Bordeaux. At the end of yet another lacklustre match, Stade Rennes and Bordeaux shared the point on a goalless draw for the second time this season. As far as satisfactions are concerned, Rennes found renewed solidity and stopped a run of three consecutive defeats. Another is still running however: seven games without a win. Worrying in the race for Europe.

Against Bordeaux without Montaño

Ligue 1, Stade rennais - Bordeaux, Saturday at 7pm. Suspended, along with Kana-Biyik, Victor Hugo Montaño is one of the most notable absent players of Rennes’ squad playing against Bordeaux this weekend. The Colombian striker should be substituted by John Verhoek, back from injury.

Ligue 1, Monaco 1 - 0 Stade Rennais. Defeated for the third time, Rennes managed another bad performance in stade Louis-II. Against the weak team of Monaco, Rennes’ players have not been able to create any opportunities and have conceded too many free kicks, one of whom leading to Monaco’s goal in second half.
