This Wednesday (18h30), Rennes will play its first friendly game against the FC Nantes, in Carnac. The Derby will be a first return to the pitch for Frédéric Antonetti's squad after three weeks of intensive physical work. An encounter far from lacking of interest.

Victor Hugo Montaño, the Colombian Warrior

Looking for a replacement to Jimmy Briand, transferred to Lyon in June 2010, the Stade Rennais managed to hire Victor Hugo Montaño, from Montpellier, for the next four seasons. Highly talented, the Colombian forward could become one of Rennes’ best offensive assets for the 2010-2011 season.

To fight hooliganism issues, a new police unit will be deployed around the Route de Lorient next season, according to the newspaper Ouest-France. Indeed, the Quick Response Intervention Squad (SIR) will be present around the Stadium, for “high risk” games.

Ghana and the whole of Africa went into massive disillusion last night, when Asamoah Gyan’s national team was knocked out by Uruguay in touching distance of the semi-finals, at the end of a breathtaking encounter (1-1, 4-2 pen.). Pagis joins the French national beach-soccer team!

Reaching the end of his contract with Rennes, Mickaël Pagis has been called up to the French national beach-soccer team for an international tournament played next week-end in Marseille. He joined Eric Cantona’s squad for the summer, before possibly becoming a full time member of the team.

Contracts : Danzé signs extension until June 2013

This Thursday, Romain Danzé signed a one year extension to his running contract with the Stade Rennais. He is now contracted to Rennes until June 2013. A clear mark of confidence from the team, towards the man expected to replace Rod Fanni as the first choice right back in the next few weeks.

Back to the Training Grounds!

After more than a month holidays, the Stade Rennais players came back to training this Thursday morning, to prepare the 2010-2011 season. A pre-season camp and six friendly games are on the menu for the “Rouge et Noir” before the new Ligue 1 season opens, with a home game against Lille on the 7th August.

Vincent Pajot is Rennes’s reserve team captain. At the expiration of his youth contract, he has recently been offered a first professional deal. The young midfielder, a pure product from Patrick Rampillon’s pool of talents, has now tied his future to the “Rouge et Noirs”.

Dréossi, France’s future executive manager?

According to reports from the daily newspaper L'Équipe, Pierre Dréossi could become the French national team’s general manager after the World Cup. Indeed, Rennes’ manager is thought to be one of Laurent Blanc’s top priorities to become part of his technical staff.

Patrick Le Lay to become President of the Stade Rennais

According to L'Équipe, Frederic Saint Sernin will leave his position as a president of the Stade Rennais in the coming weeks. He is expected to be replaced by Patrick Le Lay, the former CEO of the French television channel TF1.

André Amitrano

Goalkeepers' trainer, former goalkeeper himself, André Amitrano has joined Stade Rennais in November 2007, to replace Christophe Lollichon gone to Chelsea. Amitrano who met Pierre Dréossi when he was playing for AS Cannes has made all his career on the Côte d'Azur with only a break in Guingamp where he followed Alain Ravera. When he arrived for the second time in Britanny, he took in charge of the goalkeepers of Rennes' professional team. In June 2009, he followed Guy Lacombe to Monaco.

Papakouli Diop

Papakouli Diop, 20 year-old young Senegalese, arrived in Brittany in 2004 after playing a few years in his native country. Endowed with strong athletic potential and technical skills, Diop made Landry Chauvin and his reserve team happy during a few years before joining the professional squad in 2006. Benjamin Basse

Transfered from Mantes-la-Jolie during the 2010 summer, this young defender from the Paris region is spotted by Stade Rennais when he played twice against Rennes' reserve team during the previous season. Physically powerful, this defender can also play as a midfielder.

Laszlo Bölöni

Although Laszlo Bölöni has accomplished most of his career as a player in Romania (he even won a Champion’s league with Steaua Bucharest), it is in France that he spent most of his coach career (first for Nancy, then for Stade Rennais). Before joining the “Red & Blacks”, he was in charge of the Romanian national team (2000). Landry Chauvin

Former player for AS Vitré, Landry Chauvin has been the coach for Stade Rennais reserve team for a long period of time. He had the best players of Rennes’ academy under his command, loads of them becoming professional later. Appointed assistant-coach of the professional team in June 2007, he has chosen to leave the club in December the same year, after the appointment of Guy Lacombe as the head coach of the first team.

Étienne Didot

After doing his first professional steps in the era of Christian Gourcuff, the Paimpolais became quickly a key player in Rennes’ midfield. U23 French International player and symbol of Brittany identity for the club, Étienne Didot grew to be an essential player in the squad, becoming the team captain after Olivier Monterrubio’s transfer to Lens.
