Stade Rennais B 1 - 1 AS Moulins. Trailing for most of the game, the Rennes reserve had to settle for a draw, once again. Having failed to win since over four months, Laurent Huard’s team is swamped, desperately hoping for brighter days.
Against the Championship’s fifth, Laurent Huard’s youngsters offered a solid enough performance this afternoon against AS Moulins (1-1). However, Yassine Jebbour and his team-mates were once again unable to make the difference, and cash in four points that would have been of such relief for the Rennes squad.
Indeed, since September 19 and a home victory against USJA Carquefou (1-0), Stade Rennes Reserve is looking for their fourth success of the season. Instead, they have played their ninth consecutive game without a victory. Very much the profile of a team heading for relegation.
This Sunday, the club had decided to “pass” on the Gambardella Cup’s Round of 32 game, by throwing the 1993-1994 generation at the deep-end for a game on the road at Boulogne-sur-Mer. The anxiety was palpable , but Régis Le Bris managed the exploit to return from the North with a qualification for the next round. As for Laurent Huard, he could prepare this game with a solid group. In Frédéric Antonetti’s squad the previous evening, Yassine Jebbour and Frank Julienne were included on the starting line-up. The only absences were those of usual centre-back partners John Boye and Bira Dembélé, respectively suspended and injured.
Rennes was soon trailing, after a misunderstanding between Fabien Balisier and Pape Malick Kandji. AS Moulins went on to score the first goal through Sébastien Da Sylva (0-1, 24’). A terrible blow for the young Rennais, who had been in control of the game that far. Pushing for the equaliser, Stade Rennes then failed to convert their numerous chances. They would only manage it in the last fifteen minutes of the game, on a free-kick by Quentin Rouger that would beat Damien Rascle with the involuntary help of Loïc Chalier (1-1, 77’).
After the game, Laurent Huard was once again disappointed to see his team not rewarded with a success :« It is one of our most accomplished games in terms of physical and athletic intensity. We truly deserve more than this draw since we were dictating the play against a team so strong physically they were even dangerous sometimes. We managed to show some interesting qualities for the future”. Next week, the “Rouge et Noir” will travel to Viry-Châtillon.
