Sitting on the bench with Sylvain Wiltord, yesterday in Guingamp, Bruno Cheyrou could have made his last appearance on a professional match sheet. Indeed, according to L’Équipe, Nantes offered him a reconversion allowing him to leave the pitches and become a scout for the club, without giving more details about this new mission at the moment.
Similarly to his last season in Rennes, the playing time of the elder of the Cheyrou brothers has reduced strongly in comparison to his first season (only 427 minutes played), and Landry Chauvin isn’t really including the former Stade Rennais midfielder in his plans, preferring to give a chance to youngsters from the Academy: “I told Bruno that he is the fourth choice at centre-back, and the fourth-choice as defensive midfielder”, he recently explained to 20 minutes.
Last year already, Bruno Cheyrou had been the target of criticism. Guy Hillion, then a member of Nantes’ management, had implied that the player would not be part of the 2011-2012 project in Nantes. Cheyrou is now facing two possibilities: either to finish his contract in Loire-Atlantique, which expires in June, or accept this proposition of reconversion which will end his career as a player. A decision should be taken at the end of the week.
