Paris Saint-Germain officially confirmed that Nicolas Douchez, who reached the end of his contract with Stade Rennes, has signed a three year contract this Friday. No surprise there, since the goalkeeper’s choice had been unveiled by Pierre Dréossi on May 2nd.
Douchez and the PSG had taken their time to confirm this transfer, conditioned to the traditional medical. This done, the goalkeeper went done to sign his contract, before talking to Paris’ website. The now former Rennais affirmed he didn’t talk with PSG player before taking his decision. “I didn’t need it, Douchez explained. I talked with my relatives, and I chose what I felt was the best. I wanted to come to Paris. This became clearer in my mind as the season went by. I made that decision serenely, with much determination”.
Rennes is now working hard to replace their first choice goalkeeper, after Pierre Dréossi explained that Johann Carrasso would probably look for playing time on a loan move before applying for the position in Rennes.
According to L’Équipe, his successor could well be Sedan’s Benoît Costil, voted the best goalkeeper in Ligue 2 last season. With the likes of Stéphane Ruffier (Monaco) and David Ospina (Nice) showing too expensive, Stade Rennes would take the chance of gambling on Costi, who is currently a free agent. The newspaper also announced that the transfer could be concluded soon, on a three years contract, while youngster Abdoulaye Diallo would be promoted to the position of second goalkeeper.
On his side, Carrasso is reportedly followed by AC Ajaccio, Toulouse and Évian Thonon Gaillard.
