Contracted to the Stade Rennais until June 2011, Sylvain Marveaux announced he refuses the idea to sign an extension with the “Rouge et Noir”. The winger, who had been in talks with the club since April regarding a contract extension, is now willing to terminate his contract with Rennes, and avoid any « clash » on his way out.

Rennes could see one of its hottest prospects leave without receiving any transfer indemnity. Free of his contract at the end of the coming season, Sylvain Marveaux is indeed not planning to extend with Rennes: « I’ve got one more year on my contract, and if I have to get into this season with Rennes, I hope it all goes well and I can go to the end of my contract», explained the midfielder in an interview to L’Equipe’s website.

The target of teams such as Olympique Marseille, Paris SG and several English sides (Chelsea, Manchester United, West Ham), Marveaux had recently expressed his willingness to leave Rennes. "I’d like to go […] I’m 24 years old, I think it’s time to see something else. […] Paris is a team with something special, just like Marseille or Arsenal. When I was younger, Paris is a team I was admiring with George Weah, a legendary club. I like Paris, the club and the City, but the other teams are attractive to me too", the player explained on July 8th in Le Parisien

His words had caused an immediate reaction from Pierre Dréossi. « He isn’t on the transfer market, this has to be crystal clear. We are strongly counting on him for the next season », stated the club’s general manager in La Provence’s 13th June edition.

« I won’t fight my way out »

Sylvain Marveaux now seems to have accepted the fact he will remain in Rennes for another season. « I made my position clear, and so did the club. But I won’t fight my way out », the players precises to lequipe.fr. « I don’t want things to turn sour. It’s out of the question!  ».

In April, Rennes had entered into negotiations with Marveaux and his representatives, to try and agree on a contract extension between the player and his club. The attacking midfielder had already shown few desire to go on with Rennes, despite the management’s willingness to make him one of the club’s best paid players.
