Dréossi, France’s future executive manager?
Publié le 22 May 2010 à 13h00 byAccording to reports from the daily newspaper L'Équipe, Pierre Dréossi could become the French national team’s general manager after the World Cup. Indeed, Rennes’ manager is thought to be one of Laurent Blanc’s top priorities to become part of his technical staff.
Since a few weeks, transfer rumors abound for some members of the professional squad, who are said to be allowed a transfer. However, one man could leave ahead of them all…Pierre Dréossi.
In today’s edition, L’Équipereports that the Stade Rennais’ general manager is one of Laurent Blanc’s targets to occupy this role with the French national team. However, Dreossi is not alone on the former Bordeaux coach’s “short-list”. The name of Marino Faccioli, the current administrative director of the Olympique Lyonnais, is also mentioned in the sports newspaper.
When officially unveiled as the future national coach, Blanc had expressed a clear intention to work with a person able to "Manage the selection’s everyday affairs". Dréossi’s profile would answer this need perfectly.
In Rennes since June 2002, Dréossi put on a remarkable work since his arrival, being accessory in the club’s current sports and economical situation. In 2006, he got full powers by becoming Stade Rennais’ coach after Lazslo Bölöni’s departure. Back in his initial position in December 2008, after leaving his place on the bench, Dréossi kept his legitimacy as one of the club’s most influent members.
A few months ago, the general manager had already been approached by Paris Saint-Germain, but eventually declined the club’s proposal, unconvinced by the guarantees offered in Paris, especially in the sports sector.
Over the last few weeks, Rennes’ management chart has known changes, with Patrick Le Lay replacing Frédéric de Saint-Sernin as president. For the club’s stability, the Pinault family would certainly prefer to keep one of their major elements on board. However, after so many years in Rennes, could Pierre Dréossi really turn down such an offer?
