Dréossi : “We won’t recruit anyone lightly”

Two weeks before the club’s first game in the Europa League Pierre Dréossi made a new evaluation of Rennes’ summer recruitment. As usual, he only discussed the recruitment of a new forward very carefully: “We will still have an opportunity in attack. We are looking out for it. There is no obligation however, and we won’t recruit anyone lightly”, he announced to Ouest-France this Monday. A rather usual declaration from the general manager, in the aim to avoid pushing other clubs to raise their expectations.
While numerous names have been feeding the rumours at the Route de Lorient over the last few weeks (Erding, Rivière...), Pierre Dréossi admitted that he “had seen it all in Ligue 1” and that the new recruit would probably come from a European league in order to minimise the “adaptation difficulties”. A manoeuvre to reduce the financial expectations of some French clubs when Rennes look at one of their players?

As far as departures are concerned, Pierre Dréossi admitted that the midfield should be reduced, since as Frédéric Antonetti underlined a few weeks ago, too many similar profiles are cohabiting on this area of the team. “I think we will have to part with some players at midfield. These departures, if they are completed, will be full transfers”, the general manager affirmed, while adding that there is “no sort of emergency” on this area, and without naming anyone.

Talking about Johann Carrasso, whose situation in Rennes has become increasingly uncomfortable with the arrival of Benoît Costil, Dréossi hopes to find “a club wanting to recruit him on loan so he can get some playing time in”. This might not be the case in a Ligue 1 club considering the current market situation. In order to bounce back, the youngest of the Carrasso brothers will probably have to opt for a Ligue 2 team or a move abroad.
Finally, questioned over the arrivals of Fabien Boyer, Cheick Fantamady Diarra and Yacine Qasmi, Dréossi reminded that these three players will first join Laurent Huard’s Reserve before maybe having a chance to join Frédéric Antonetti’s squad, citing the example of John Boye.
