While his club, Hamburg SV, played a friendly game against Wolfsburg this Sunday afternoon, Pitroipa made the headlines… with his absence soon justified by the German club on their official website.
After Stade rennais and Hambourg reached an agreement of the transfer fee, Pitroipa was allowed to pack his luggage and fly to Brittany. According to Ouest-France, there are only minor details to settle before completing a transfer whose value is in the region of 3.5 to 4 million euro plus bonuses.
Subject to the traditional medical, Stade Rennes should soon be making the arrival of their third recruit, after Benoît Costil and Julien Féret, official, and bolster the attacking line a bit more.
Aged 25, Pitroipa has been playing for Hamburg since 2008, after learning his trade at SC Freiburg, the club he joined in 2004. Last season, the winger scored two goals and delivered seven assists in the Bundesliga.
