In an interview given to website Football365.fr, Pierre Dréossi discussed the latest developments at Stade Rennais in the winter transfer window.
The general manager, who confirmed the club’s interest for Christian Benteke last Thursday, hinted that the Standard de Liège player should indeed arrive in Brittany in the next months. “We have found an agreement with the player, and with the club too, Dréossi affirms. This will be for next season. The case is going more than well. He should arrive during the summer”.
Benteke, whom identity was exclusively revealed by Stade Rennais Online last Tuesday, is not allowed to join Rennes this winter, since he has already played for two different clubs this season.
After the arrival of Razak Boukari, does this mean the winter transfer market is over for Stade Rennes? “No, Dréossi replies firmly. We will now see if an opportunity arises. We are looking but there is no emergency ».
On Thursday evening, we revealed that the general manager was preparing to travel to the Netherlands to hold talks with a forward. “We are working on other cases, for now but also for next season, he explains. We are not at a point where we think about loaning a player or something like that. We want to strengthen the team a bit, and also find good young players who can blend in that team”.
As for the arrival of a defender, it seems less and less likely. “We don’t need experience on the back line, says Dréossi. We have the best defence in the League, far better than any other. We don’t need a defender. Unless a catastrophe happens before the end of the transfer window, we are in no urgency on that level”. While waiting for Apam’s return, Frédéric Antonetti will certainly hope that his defensive line is spared by injuries.
